In the Kayo Aro District of West Sumatra, this coffee is grown in small coffee gardens sitting in the shadow of the Kerinci Volcano on the edge of the Kerinci National Park. Home to the endangered Sumatran Tiger.
The Alko Cooperative has been running since 2013 has 400 members, spread across 17 villages. The coop has worked closely with the WWF in a multifaceted project to help improve infrastructure and aid the farmers in working in harmony with the local environment and protect the national park.
They use a central processing centres, to enable extra care is taken in slection, electronic system and database online; accessible for the producers to review deliveries, prices paid, general sales info and farming education.
Coffees are floated and then pulped and fermented in water between 12 – 36 depending on weather. Then dried in tents between 8 – 15 days.
